It’s valentines day! and I have a confession to make. I secretly always hated valentines day. Why? because it just felt like a commercial piece of crap (it still is commercialisation at its best!). However, this year I decided to not leave all the effort to my dear hubby and decide to partake in this year’s celebrations. Life is all about perspective and my perception has changed. We can all get albeit lost in everyday mundane life, so why not have a day where we can treat our loved ones to something special, and remind them how much we appreciate and love them.
So this year I am treating hubby to an extra special meal at home! and a night of fun, laughter, and games minus the kids (lol). On the menu, was deep-fried prawns to share for starters (click here for recipe), for mains I had jerk lamb shank (I used this recipe to season the lamb), and steak (for him). Finished off with hubby’s favorite which is anything with cherries so I made a black forest cheesecake (click here for the recipe I used). This is the first three-course meal I made that I actually enjoyed prepping and cooking. I guess it is because it came from the heart and it was made with patience and not the rush of having to get dinner on the table in time for the kids.
I really wanted to set the mood, so I created an inexpensive valentine’s tablescape which was inspired by rustic romantic charm. The flowers on the table are artificial and are called Smycka and I got them from Ikea. The large glass cylinder at the center is also from Ikea and came in a set of three. The smaller fishbowl was from a site called Inerra.
Hubby always gets me roses on Valentine’s Day so I already planned to peel the petals off and leave them to float in the fishbowls to give the table a pop of colour. I bought some floating candles which you can pick up online from eBay or other major retailers. I picked up candlesticks from my local supermarket and the gold candle holders are from theweddingofmydreams.co.uk I hope this post leaves you inspired to get creative when dining at home. Happy Valentines day x
